QATAR Construction is Transforming to New Phase
|
Qatar is set to become the newest member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) which is a significant step forward in becoming more environmentally sustainable as the subject of Green Buildings has been gaining importance in recent years.
The World Green Building Council (WGBC) is a union of national councils whose mission is to accelerate the transformation of the global built environment towards sustainability. Through leadership collaboration, the global construction industry will transform traditional building practices and fully adopt sustainability as the means by which our environments thrive.
Qatar is encouraging construction industry to adopt environmentally friendly “Green Building” Practices and will develop a new model for green building. This new model will become the standard for all developers in Qatar and will take into account local culture and traditions.
Efforts were already made by several organizations over the last two years to introduce the green building system in Qatar in response to the global calls about the need to mitigate the effects of global warming.
Qatar will not only work to create awareness of the importance of sustainable environment management practices, it will also act as the central coordination point for the development of our own set of Qatar-specific green building solutions. |

GREEN BUILDINGS
|
Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building''''s life-cycle from sitting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Green building is also known as a sustainable or high performance building.
Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:
• Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
• Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
• Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation
For example, green buildings may incorporate sustainable materials in their construction (e.g., reused, recycled-content, or made from renewable resources); create healthy indoor environments with minimal pollutants (e.g., reduced product emissions); and/or feature landscaping that reduces water usage (e.g., by using native plants that survive without extra watering). |
